The intellectual domain of potential refers to natural abilities in processing, understanding, reasoning, and the transfer of learning.

Students that show potential in the intellectual domain may demonstrate characteristics such as:

  • Capacity to learn new material quickly
  • Advanced capacity to remember what they have learned (requiring fewer repetitions for mastery)
  • Advanced abstract and critical thinking skills
  • An extensive vocabulary
  • A wide range of intellectual and academic interests
  • An ability to ask reflective, probing and provocative questions
  • A preference for independent work or to work with like-minded peers
  • An unusually well-developed sense of justice and fairness
  • Can exhibit perfectionist tendencies
  • Capacity for greater analytical depth
  • Relative ease in making connections between key learning areas
  • Advanced reading ability and comprehension
  • Thrives on complexity
