Support Unit

The Support Unit at Moss Vale High School caters for students with a diagnoses of:

  • Autism
  • Moderate or Severe Intellectual Disability (IO/IS) and
  • Multi-categorical (MC)

We are staffed by one Head Teacher, several Classroom Teachers and several School Learning Support Officers.

The subjects taught within the Support Unit are all Life Skills based and include:

  • English, Maths & Science
  • Human Society & Its Environment (HSIE)
  • Personal Development, Health & Physical Education (PDHPE)
  • Creative & Performing Arts (CAPA) including Music, Drama, Dance & Art
  • Technology & Applied Studies (TAS), Agriculture and
  • Sport - Coverdrive Multi Sports Program based at Bradman Oval and sponsored by Kollege of Knowledge Kommittee for Kids Inc (the 4K's)

Students also have the opportunity to integrate in Mainstream classes.  This would be negotiated and implemented after an Individual Education Plan (IEP) meeting has taken place.

Inclusive activities include participating in:

  • Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals
  • Creative & Performing Arts events including choir, dance and other concerts

Living Skills Programs (Designed to foster Independence)

  • Community Access programs (where students access the local community), and
  • Travel Training programs (where students access a variety of modes of public transport using Opal cards)

Work Experience programs

  • School based (school canteen, working with the General Assistant)
  • Community based (Welby Garden Centre & McDonalds Mittagong)
  • Accessing TAFE NSW (Moss Vale Campus) programs

Transition into Employment / Post School Options

  • Generally for our senior students in Years 11 & 12
  • Students and their families are invited to 'Taster Days' organised by local NDIS Service Providers.
