Human society and its environment

In Human Society and its Environment (HSIE), both subjects of History and Geography are mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

Students learn specific historical and geographical concepts and skills in History and Geography. They also have an opportunity to learn more about people and the societies and environments in which they live through elective subjects.

A large number of individual subjects make up the key learning area of HSIE in which students:

  • research, gather and analyse information
  • question and make judgements
  • write for a variety of purposes.

The HSIE department boasts a large subject range.  The staff teaching in these areas display a passion for the discipline they teach and hold a strong commitment to achieve outstanding results for all of their students.

In the junior years, subjects offered include -

History

  • History Stage 4 (7-8)
  • History Stage 5 (9-10)
Geography
  • Geography Stage 4 (7-8)
  • Geography Stage 5 (9-10)
Commerce
This area of study allows students with an interest in law, government, politics, economics and business the opportunity to gain basics in these areas. This also equips them with a strong foundation for the senior HSIE subjects of Legal Studies ad Business Studies.
