The study of Mathematics is mandatory from Year 7 to Year 10. 

By studying Mathematics, students develop knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical concepts and their use within the classroom and beyond.

In Year 7 to 10 students undertake common content from the three syllabus strands:

  • Number and algebra
  • Measurement and geometry
  • Statistics and probability.

In Year 11 and 12 students may choose to study Mathematics at a standard or advanced level.


At Moss Vale High School we offer a range of extension and enrichment opportunities for students who are interested in or adept at Mathematics.  These opportunities include:

  • Mathematics Olympiad Challenge
  • Australian Mathematics Competition
  • Australian Mathematics Trust Enrichment Challenge
  • Coding Home Group
  • Chess Home Group
  • Australian National University Math Challenge Day
  • Mathematics at Work Elective
  • Mathematics Extension 1 or 2
